The first game of a pivotal three-match week sees Steyning Town visiting Phoenix Sports on Saturday for a six-pointer at the Christopher Russell Stadium.

Following a midweek Kent Cup win over Cray Wanderers, Darren Anslow’s men bring renewed optimism as they urgently seek their first league victory of the season.

This marks Steyning’s first-ever visit to Phoenix, following their promotion to the Isthmian South East Division for the 2024-25 season.

Despite early setbacks against Merstham and Broadbridge Heath, Steyning celebrated a notable 4-1 league win over Littlehampton on 10 September, with goals from Lloyd Francis, Charlie Meehan, Alfie Rogers, and Lucas Murrain. Later that month, they secured a crucial 2-1 home victory over Hythe Town, with Rogers netting twice in front of their home crowd.

However, their league form faltered in October, suffering six consecutive defeats to Herne Bay (0-2), East Grinstead (2-3), Ramsgate (0-1), Burgess Hill Town (1-3), AFC Croydon Athletic (1-3), and finally, a 0-3 loss to Sevenoaks Town, capping a difficult month for the team.

Like Phoenix, Steyning have struggled with defensive vulnerabilities and a lack of goals, causing a slide down the league table in October. They will be determined to reverse this streak of poor results.

For both teams, this match presents an ideal opportunity to turn things around.
